Statistics released by the Welsh Government shows that over 1,800 children benefited from Flying Start services in Newport.
Flying Start offers eligible parents free, quality childcare for children under the age of four. In Newport, 100% of those children took up the full or reduced offer of childcare. Flying Start also offers parenting support, an enhanced health visitor service and help with their children’s early language development. It recognises that children’s early years are an important period and experiences at this time impact greatly on children’s future development.
This is great news and shows how investment and support in early years can make a real difference to children’s lives. The work being done by Flying Start in areas like Bettws, Duffryn, Gaer, Malpas, Pillgwenlly and Maesglas is invaluable in ensuring that children have the best possible start in life. It is also pleasing we have a clear commitment to expand the number of children benefiting from this policy.
The Flying Start programme is funded by Welsh Government and in partnership with Newport City Council.
