I share residents concerns and I’m particularly worried about the impact on the elderly and vulnerable people who rely on this service.
Along with the Shaftesbury Labour Councillors, Bob Poole and Paul Cockeram, we have been working hard behind the scenes in discussion with Newport Transport for this service to continue.
We now understand that another company is interested in running a regular bus service from Brynglas to the City Centre. These discussions are in the early stages and are ongoing. We will continue to campaign hard to retain a bus service.
There is real hope that Friars Walk will be a magnet for many new passenger journeys that will make the service financially viable. Services should be planned on future optimism not on past problems.
