I am pleased that the Welsh Government has extended its investment in ‘hospice at home’ services in a move to improve end of life provision across Wales.
Deputy Health Minister Vaughan Gething recently announced further funding for palliative services close in or close to family homes. Areas covered through this funding include assistance and advice with symptom management, and psychological and spiritual support for those suffering or effected by an advanced life threatening illness.
Investing a further £910,000 into end of life care is an important commitment by the Welsh Government . We can be very proud that Wales is the only country in the UK to offer 24/7 advice and professional caring for individuals at the end of their lives.
The £3million funding boost for a new 15 bed unit at the brilliant St David’s Hospice in Malpas shows Welsh Government taking the lead in investment palliative care. A successful palliative care system is vital to ensuring a caring National Health Service.
