I welcome the recent announcement by Mark Drakeford, Welsh Health Minister of proposals to ‘future proof’ the NHS.
Under plans outlined by the Health Minister, health providers will be made more accountable for errors, and a ‘legal duty of candour’ for all NHS staff would ensure obligations to investigate complaints across Health and Social Services.
We all value the exceptional service our NHS provides, and in order to sustain and improve health services it is important that, when they do occur, mistakes are thoroughly investigated. The new proposals outlined by the Health Minister – including a greater role for Community Health Councils – will increase accountability and improve relations between medical professionals and their patients
