For Carers Week 2017 Newport City Council hosted a range of events around Newport to celebrate the vital contribution Carers make to our families, communities and society as a whole.
With an ageing population, most of us at some point in our life will either take on caring responsibilities for a loved one or need the help of a carer ourselves. Having the best support in place for carers makes a big difference.
The celebrations kicked off at Belle Vue Tearooms with the launch of Dewis and the Carers network, which I was proud to attend along with Councillor Paul Cockeram.
This was followed by an afternoon tea at the Sycamore Ward in St Woolos Hospital. The staff on the Dementia Ward organised a pamper session for patients and their relatives. It was a lovely way to show how much we appreciate those who care.
