Whizz Kidz in the Senedd

This week a Newport woman presented two petitions to the Welsh Government along with a group that campaigns to protect the rights of young disabled people.
Ayesha Khan, from Pill, is a member of national organisation Whizz-Kidz and one of a group of young people to attend the Senedd today on behalf of the organisation. Ayesha has been a member for six years and I was proud to present her with a Young Leader Award. Ayesha is the first member of the group to complete a Young Leader Award programme within Whizz-Kidz, another Newport first!

The organisation campaigns for the right of young disabled children to a fun, active childhood, and it aims to transform lives by providing equipment and support to needed to develop to their full potential. The petitions address issues such as disabled people’s access to public transport, and housing adaptations to ensure that everyone has access to appropriate living facilities. They were presented to the Petitions Committee at the Senedd on Tuesday afternoon.

It is inspiring to see a group of young people working so hard to represent the rights and interests of young disabled people across Wales.

It is important for the Welsh Government to make sure that the voices of young campaigners like these are heard, and that we do all we can to address these issues and make sure that all young disabled people are represented.

I am proud to have young, passionate and active people like Ayesha in my constituency. She should be proud of what she has achieved, and I am looking forward to working with her more in the future.
