I made my first visit to the Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells on Tuesday and found the event an incredible showpiece of Welsh agriculture.
I attended the event with her fellow AMs on the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee (CCERA) in order to discuss with key stakeholders the important issues facing the farming and rural community. At the top of the agenda was the impact Brexit would have on Welsh farmers, especially with the eventual end of direct payments facilitated by the Common Agricultural Policy.
The annual show celebrates the best of Welsh produce from across Wales and hosts a series of activities including crafts, horticulture, forestry and much more.
The Royal Welsh Show is an incredible event which showpieces the best Wales has to offer livestock, food and drinks wise across Wales. Given the quality of Welsh produce, I am not surprised that the Welsh food and drink industry now has a turnover of £6.1 billion. This is a Welsh success story that must be continued and as a member of the rural affairs committee I am determined to make that the case.
