I’m supporting Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs from the 29th of February to the 13th of March.
Fairtrade Fortnight offers us with a valuable chance to show our solidarity and support for the global food producers we all depend upon.
It is unacceptable that farm workers in many parts of the world struggle to feed their own families. In supporting Fairtrade, we can work towards ensuring that all food producers are paid a fairer price for their labour. Over 1.5 million farmers and workers in 74 countries – including workers in the gold, cotton and flower industries – are now participating in Fairtrade initiatives.
I’m a long-time campaigner for Fairtrade in Newport, and am proud to have played a part in the drive to make Newport a Fairtrade city, and Wales a Fairtrade country. It’s important that we continue to buy Fairtrade products, and support social and environmental sustainability around the world.
